About Dorothy

smDR-8 My name is Dorothy Richmond. I am an Accredited Practising Dietitian and member of the Dietitians Association of Australia. I have commenced a private practice in Cairns and am available to accept referrals. I am passionate about  improving the nutrition and health of my patients. I have more than 20 years’ experience since qualifying as a dietitian at the University of Surrey in the UK and I gained an MBA from James Cook University in Cairns.

I held the position of principal cookery teacher at TAFE as well as various hospital positions in Cairns and the Tablelands. I am able to work with  you to promote a sustainable, and positive health changes in relation to food.. My experience working with community groups in Aurukun, Lockhart River, Napranum and in the Torres Straits can assist my indigenous patients with e practical food based and family approach.

My experience in the hospitality industry in Far North Queensland allows me to successfully advise my patients about cooking methods and eating outside of the home. I can assist my patients with my cooking style which leans towards Mediterranean and Asian cuisine.  I am a qualified chef and registered teacher and hold a Diploma in environmental sustainability.


  • In 2006 I attended the International Congress on the Mediterranean diet held by the James Beard Foundation in Florence.
  • In 2010 I completed ProChef course in Asian cookery at the Culinary Institute of America in New York
  • Secretary of Australian Culinary Federation, Cairns Chapter for 10 years supporting and fundraising for young chefs to compete in cooking competitions to achieve culinary excellence.
